Christian History
Christian History is around 2,000 years old. The story begins with Jesus in the four gospels. If you haven't read these, I highly recommend you read them because they tell the story of Jesus better than any other history I have ever read.
They were written by four very different men.
Matthew was a tax collector before he was called by Jesus to become a disciple of Jesus. Matthew's gospel begins with the lineage of Jesus, covers his entire life, and is written primarily for a Jewish audience.
Mark was a contemporary of St. Paul. Paul was a Jew who brought the message of Christ to the Gentiles. Mark never knew Jesus, but he was able to interview both Peter and John, disciples of Jesus (and also two of the 12 apostles). Mark wrote about the last week of Jesus's life. His gospel is primarily for a Greek/Gentile audience.
Luke was a physician and a friend of Paul's. Although Paul never knew Jesus, he too had access to both Peter and John. Luke was a very careful chronicler of history. You can see how carefully he documented Jesus's life by reading his writings. His book covers the entire life of Jesus. As Matthew's account was written primarily for a Jewish audience, Luke's account was written for a Gentile audience.
John, like Matthew, was one of the original disciples. He was also the youngest, as well as the only one of the disciples who wasn't martyred. His account of Jesus is different from the others in that he didn't deal with the details of Jesus's life. John deals specifically with the divinity of Christ, and his account covers the three years of Jesus' ministry.
As for the history of the church, mainly the Catholic church, begins with the institutionalization of Christianity in the 3rd century under Constantine.
