Christianity is one of the six major religions. It was started over 2000 years ago after the death of Jesus of Nazareth.
The basic tenets of the Christian faith are:
1. Accept Jesus Christ as your savior. Jesus is the only way to heaven.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6 - King James Version)
2. Christianity hinges completely on the idea that Jesus Christ arose from the dead (Resurrection). If Jesus didn't rise from the dead, there is no reason to believe, and no reason to have faith in Christ.
But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: (1 Corinthians 15:13 - King James Version)
3. Jesus didn't come to condemn the world but to save the world.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 - King James Version)
4. We can't work our way into heaven.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (Ephesians 2:8 - King James Version)
The Bible is divided up into several sections:
-Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are the gospels. They tell the story of Jesus.
-Acts tells the history of the church and was written by Luke.
-The Epistles, or letters were written by Paul, who wrote most of the New Testament. His story is found in the Book of Acts, written by Luke.
-James and Jude were written by Jesus's brothers James and Jude respectively and give advice about living the Christian life.
-The letters of Peter were written by Peter, one of Jesus's apostles.
-The letters of John were written by John, the author of John and one of Jesus's apostles.
-Revelation was written by John and tells of the endtimes.
Although the Old Testament is part of the Bible, it is largely historical. The teachings don't apply to Christians, only those who live under Judaism.
The best way to get to know Jesus is to read and study the New Testament. Unfortunately, most Christians get it wrong because they never read the Bible. Find out for yourself.
