Mother's Day
Mother's Day isn't really a Christian holiday. However, it is a holiday that most Christians, and even many non Christians celebrate.
Mother's Day celebrations date all of the way back to the time of the ancient Greeks. The Greeks celebrated the Spring Festival in honor of the goddess Rhea.
Christians began celebrating Mother's Day on the fourth Sunday of Lent in honor of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Mother's Day celebrations began over 150 years ago when Anna Jarvis, an Appalachian homemaker, organized a day to bring awareness to the poor health conditions in the Appalachians.
After Jarvis died in 1905, her daughter rallied to have her mother's life's work organized into a holiday: Mother's Day.
